Norwalk pediatric braces
Interceptive orthodontics is a premise for which your child will wear our Norwalk pediatric braces as a way to get out ahead of problems before they become more complicated and cost more in both time and money. Having straight, properly-spaced teeth and an occlusion (bite) that is well-aligned is a goal that we at Children’s Dental Group has for your child. By getting started at a younger age, before adolescence, there is a much better chance that he or she won’t need braces or a retainer in her or his teen years; or at least to a far less extent.
If either you or our pediatric dentist notice concerns such as teeth crowding, a bite that’s off, protruding teeth, teeth growing in crooked, too much space between teeth, or improper jaw growth, it’s important to recognize that these are difficulties that tend to grow worse with time. Our Norwalk pediatric braces can address those issues, and also make room in your child’s mouth for the teeth that have yet to grow in. While orthodontic care is often associated with starting around 12-14 years of age, the benefits of beginning at a younger age, as early as 5-7, are undeniable. Basically, as soon as any symptoms are noticed, it is a good time to consider our Norwalk pediatric braces. Some of those symptoms are breathing through the mouth, chewing difficulties, sucking of the finger or thumb, teeth crowding, misplaced teeth, baby teeth lost early or staying in for too long, teeth blocked out, jaws and teeth out of proportion with the rest of his or her face, shifting jaw, and clicking sounds when the jaw moves.
Delaying orthodontic treatment for your child can put her or him at increased risk for more extreme care later on. When you consider that, it makes sense to call us and schedule an evaluation for your child to find out if it’s a good time to take advantage of our Norwalk pediatric braces.
Norwalk children’s dentist
At Children’s Dental Group our Norwalk children’s dentist specializes in children’s dentistry and children’s orthodontics. Our staff is specially trained to put children at ease and make them more comfortable when visiting the dentist. Orthodontics are used to align teeth and straighten them after the child’s permanent teeth grow in. Our gentle touch helps us meet your child’s medical needs and care for their teeth while they learn going to the dentist can be a fun experience.
Our pediatric orthodontic services extend to removable appliances that are used in tandem with fixed appliances like braces. Removable appliances can be used to move selected teeth or hold them in place while influencing the growth of the jaws and tooth eruption. These types of appliances can be used to treat pediatric orthodontic problems and should only be done by a certified and skilled professional such as our Norwalk children’s dentist. After teeth are moved into their correct positions, the braces are removed before designing retainers for your child’s teeth to help the move back towards their original positions.
Our Norwalk children’s dentist is also trained to treat special needs patients and is trained to deal with children’s behavioral aspects. We know how to put kids at ease while teaching them the proper ways to take care of their teeth and proper oral hygiene habits. Tooth decay and cavities are a serious problem children because dental problems can start early in life. Children who are bottle fed or who have oral habits such as thumb sucking should be checked for tooth decay or gum disease. Having your child’s gums and teeth checked at an early age to prevent future problems. Dental sealants are one way to help seal teeth against bacteria. Children need strong and healthy teeth to help them chew, speak and feel confident about their smiles.
Norwalk Kid’s Orthodontist
A malocclusion, or uneven bite is not just an aesthetic problem. An uneven bite or crooked teeth can also cause problems with chewing and even effect the structural integrity of the mouth. For children problems with the bite can also effect speech development. Our Norwalk kids orthodontist can correct these problems and give the child an even bite with straight teeth. At Children’s Dental Group our orthodontists will diagnose and recommend orthodontic treatments for children usually between 12 – 14. However, our practice recommends that children should be screened for potential orthodontic problems earlier, usually around age seven, according to the American Association of Orthodontists guidelines.
Our Norwalk kids orthodontist will take the time to educate both our young patients and their parents about any bite problems they have and their recommendations for treatment. It is extremely important to our practice that both the parents and the child understand everything about the treatment process so that they can make decisions. Our doctors want make sure that the patient knows what to expect during each part of the process and what role they have to play in it so that their complete cooperation can be given to the treatment. The treatment will not be successful without the child’s active participation. The type of treatment that our doctors recommend depends on the type of bite problem. The child’s bite maybe an openbite, insufficient vertical overlap of the teeth, an overbite, when the upper teeth protrude over the lower teeth, an overjet, the lower teeth are too far behind the upper teeth or an underbite, the lower teeth protrude in front of the upper teeth. Our practice uses a range of techniques to correct each of these bite problems including braces, removable appliances and headgear, retainers, extractions, elastics and in some more extreme cases surgery. One newer form of orthodontic procedure is the use of aligners, which are a series of plastic tray-like devices that fit over the teeth and are worn for two weeks each. Our practice uses the Invisalign System of aligners, with each aligner gently moving the teeth a little further into the proper position. Invisalign aligners are clear and virtually invisible when worn and are removable for eating and tooth brushing.
Your child’s bite influences many aspects of their lives and can set up how they eat, speak, the state of their dental health and their self-esteem for the rest of their lives. Our Norwalk kids orthodontist brings the latest techniques and tools available to help correct any issues with their bite and teeth, each of which is done in a caring, compassionate manner. So, please bring your child into our office for an evaluation of their bite. If there is an issue, we’ll work with you and your child to correct it before it goes too far.
